Karin Breitman, EMC R&D, Brazil

Prior to joining EMC, Dr. Breitman worked as a tenured CS Professor at PUC-Rio. Over her career she held joint industry projects with NASA, HP, IBM and Microsoft, where she also worked. At EMC Brazil R&D Center she oversaw the filing for 40+ patents, and the successful completion of large scale joint research projects. She secured strategic partnerships with government officials as well as with local stakeholders. She collaborates with EMC consulting in the execution of big data projects that lead to new revenue streams in the areas of Telco, Finance and Healthcare, including the creation of the EMC Big Data Experience, intended at giving a competitive edge to existing business, by leveraging the state-of-the-art R&D facility in Rio. She is involved in productizing the compression technology developed at the center with the Isilon team, and leading R&D projects funded by tax exemption (PPB).
She recently firmed a collaboration with the Ministry of Health for the use of Big Data in combating the Zica outbreak. Karin is the author of over one hundred combined patents (Microsoft/EMC), books, and scientific papers. She is a member of the ACM Practitioners Board, as well as GEN, PMI, and InnovAction Boards. She also serves as a cloud computing and IoT expert for the European Commission.
