How to solve large scale modelling, imaging and inversion geophysical problems: HPC4E project publications and next events
Insights from EU-Brazil Research
Funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Programme (2014-2020) and the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation through Rede Nacional de Pesquisa (RNP), the HPC4E project (https://hpc4e.eu/) aims to apply the new exascale HPC techniques to energy industry simulations, customizing them, and going beyond the state-of-the-art in the required HPC exascale simulations for different energy sources: wind energy production and design, efficient combustion systems for biomass-derived fuels (biogas), and exploration geophysics for hydrocarbon reservoirs.

In particular we recommend the opening keynote at the 2016 EAGE's seismic modelling workshop given by Josep de la Puente, Barcelona Supercomputing Center and HPC4E partner, on June 3rd, 2016 titled "Mimetic Operators for Seismic Exploration", showing the possibilities of modern FD schemes to solve large scale modelling, imaging and inversion geophysical problems.
Where to meet HPC4E
- 79th EAGE Conference & Exhibition, 12 - 15 June 2017, Paris. The EAGE General Assembly is Europe's largest conference on geophysical exploration and hence the perfect place to show HPC4E's developments in the field of seismic imaging or inversion using HPC algorithms and infrastructure.
- EGU 23–28 April 2017, Vienna. EGU is the main conference for academic geosciences in Europe, thus our novel concepts and ideas can be discussed and scientifically challenged.
- GEAGAM Workshop III, May 2017 : "Large-scale geophysical problems and inversion" will be organized. This workshop will bring together experts in the field of computational geosciences from all over the world, to discuss best practices and the challenges ahead in this field.
