EU-Brazil cooperation: a successful past and a promising future
EUBrasilCloudFORUM at ICT Proposer’s day (Bratislava – Slovakia)
ICT Proposers' Day 2016, the most significant European Commission event on research and innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT), took place in Bratislava (Slovakia) between 26th – 27th September, focusing on the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2016-17.
Researchers, industry, academics, government and SMEs from all Europe joined together to find and build quality partnerships for future H2020 proposals, which will improve Europe’s global competitiveness.
ICT Proposer’s day hosted a networking session exclusively for Research and Development Targeted Cooperation between EC and Brazil. Brazilian policy members came from Brazil to join their EC counterparts in order to talk about the 4th EU-BR collaborative call and review previous collaborative projects, the success of which has led to an unprecedented amount of funds available for the next call.
Marco Vieira, European Coordinator of EUBrasilCloudFORUM, was invited to join the session and to showcase EUBrasilCloudFORUM as a successful EU-BR collaborative project. The project goal is to support EU and Brazil in developing a common strategy and approach for Research & Innovation in Cloud Computing that is in line with the priorities of each region.
EUBraBIGSEA and SecureCloud, two successful EU-BR collaborative projects, were invited to join the session, and showcased how they are shaping and improving the cloud landscape between Europe and Brazil.
4th EU-BR collaborative call – 3 areas to focus on for a brighter EU-BR ICT future
The next EU-BR collaborative call, the fourth of these calls, will be launched in November of this year, and will focus on 3 main areas: Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT) Pilots and 5G Networks.
The Cloud Computing call will fund 2 proposals in Research and Innovation Actions, thanks to a total of € 2.5 million in funds available from each side. Proposals shall take into account the the main international priorities in the Cloud Computing sector between Europe and Brazil (see Maria’s presentation).
Regarding 5G, a total of € 2 million will be available to fund proposals that will support the development of innovative technologies in the context of 5G radio access or core network and contribute to 5G standards to support global industry consensus. For more information, check out the presentation given by Jorge Pereira, coordinator of 5G networks in EC.
Last but not least, Georges Lobo was in charge of the IoT call presentation. IoT call has the highest budget, with € 9 million available to fund proposals addressing some of the areas of interest for EU-Brazil collaboration: Environmental monitoring, Smart water management, energy management at home and in buildings, smart living environments for healthy aging ageing well and customization of smart manufacturing.
As usual, one requirement is that all proposals must have both Brazilian and European partners to be eligible to receive funds. Wanderson Paim de Jesus, from RNP in Brazil, showcased some platforms in which the audience could search for Brazilian partners for their proposals.
