4th EU-BR Cooordinated Call received 50 proposals on cloud computing, IoT and 5G

In this 4th EU-BR coordinated call, 16 million euro will be invested in 6 projects, with a 3 year timeframe, all focused on ICT. The call received 50 proposals, an increase of 28% compared to the last call. From these 50 proposals, 33 are on the Internet of Things (IoT), 13 on cloud computing and 4 on 5G.

"The number of applications received has surpassed expectations", states the project coordinator from “Research Centre & Development of Digital Technologies for Innovation and Communication” from RNP, Wanderson Paim, “Usually, consortia are composed by an average of 5 Brazilian institutions and 5 Europeans, which need to work together in order to write a proposal of around 70 pages plus a brief CV of all the researchers involved".

Paim also notes that the challenges start when creating this consortium, which has to ensure the right type of expertise and earlier work on in relation to the call topic and expected impacts. It is joint work that requires a lot of effort from the coordinators.

According to Wanderson, the call results will be published by July, with project execution expected to start in January 2018.
